iKON

iKON debuted in September 2015 under YG Entertainment as a seven-member boy band but became a six-member group when former member B.I left in 2019.

The bandmates took part in the "WIN: Who is Next?" audition program that aired on Mnet in 2013 — the winning four of which debuted in 2014 as boy band Winner — then another program titled "Mix and Match" in 2014 to finalize the debut members of the new band.

The band's R&B "Love Scenario" (2018) is one of the most well-known and often-parodied songs in K-pop, surpassing 620 million views on YouTube as of April 2023.

The band suffered a blow in 2019 when its member B.I quit the band after a Dispatch report alleged that the rapper used marijuana in 2016. The band then took 10 months to release a new EP with the six remaining members.

In January 2023, all six members signed with a newly-founded agency called 143 Entertainment, but it has not released new music as of March 2023.

What is the meaning of the name iKON?

The name iKON is a mash-up of the words icon and Korea, meaning that the group aims to become the K-pop icon of Korea. The concept is also visible in the band's logo, which took its motif from the black lines in the Korean national flag.
