“Top Gun: Maverick” surpasses 6 million in ticket sales

“Top Gun: Maverick” surpassed 6 million in ticket sales at the local box office.

According to the Korean Film Council Thursday, the Hollywood film starring Tom Cruise surpassed the record at 8 a.m. Thursday, 30 days after its release. It’s the first foreign film to reach the milestone this year.

The film surpassed 1 million in ticket sales just four days after its release and is soon expected to surpass the record set by Cruise's previous work “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” (2015), which recorded 6.12 million in ticket sales.

“Top Gun: Maverick” is the sequel to the classic “Top Gun” (1986) which catapulted Cruise to stardom. The actor returned reprised his role as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for the film, tasked with training Top Gun aviators for a near-impossible mission.
