Director Hong Sang-soo’s latest film “In Our Day” (2023) was selected as the closing film at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight sidebar of the 76th Cannes Film Festival next month, the organizers announced Tuesday.

“In Our Day,” starring actors Kim Min-hee, Ki Joo-bong, Song Seon-mi and more, is director Hong’s 12th film to be introduced at the festival. Details about the film have not yet been revealed.

Director Hong first entered the Cannes Film Festival in 1998 with “The Power of Kangwon Province” (1998), which was nominated for the Un Certain Regard section. His 2010 film, “Hahaha,” won the Prix Un Certain Regard the same year.

Cannes Director’s Fortnight, first started in 1969 by the French Directors Guild, is a non-competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival that introduces films by filmmakers that “profoundly influenced contemporary cinema and contributed to the evolution of its language.”

Other Korean films invited to this year’s Cannes Festival include “Cobweb” (2023) by director Kim Jee-woon, starring Song Kang-ho and Lim Soo-jung, which has been selected for Out of Competition film, “Hopeless” by Kim Chang-hoon featuring actor Song Joong-ki, which has been nominated for Un Certain Regard, and “Sleep” (2023), a horror film by director Jason Yu that was invited to the competition section of Cannes Critics’ Week.

“In Our Day” will open in cinemas in the second half of 2023, after it premieres at Cannes in May.
