'Confidential Assignment 2' is Chuseok box office king
"Confidential Assignment 2: International" was the most popular movie over the Chuseok harvest holiday, according to the Korean Film Council on Monday.
The action-comedy sold 2,098,000 tickets from Sept. 8 to 11, topping the local box office charts for four straight days. The film premiered on Sept. 7.
The comedy "6/45" sold around 304,000 tickets during the same period, coming in No. 2.
"Confidential Assignment 2: International" is a sequel to 2017's "Confidential Assignment," which told the story of a South Korean detective played by Hyun Bin and a North Korean detective played by Yoo Hai-jin, who team up unofficially to root out a North Korean crime ring in South Korea. That film sold 7.81 million tickets.
In the sequel, the duo’s assignment goes international and the pair are joined by Daniel Henney, who plays an FBI agent. They must catch the leader of a North Korean crime cartel played by Jin Seon-kyu.
