The Korean Film Council (Kofic) announced on Tuesday the establishment of Indie Ground, an independent film distribution support center opened to improve the environment for creating and distributing Korean independent films.

Established by the Kofic and operated by the Association of Korean Independent Film & Video, Indie Ground aims to promote the distribution and screening of Korean independent films by providing online distribution support and network support for independent films. It will also carry out various projects to spread the social value of independent films and educate about film distribution.

"For the development of Korean films, independent films that make new attempts need to be well-known by the public,” Oh Seok-geun, chairman of Kofic, said during the opening ceremony on Aug. 28. "The committee and Indie Ground will be there for the independent filmmakers. I hope Indie Ground will be a sanctuary for Korean independent films.”

"Indie Ground will play an important role in improving the distribution environment of independent films in Korea," Jo Yeong-gak, the head of Indie Ground, said.
