Discord officially authorizes Artms, tripleS's servers
Girl group tripleS and Artms’ official Discord servers became the first K-pop girl groups to have their official servers authorized by Discord, announced agency Modhaus on Thursday.
Discord is an instant messaging social platform where users can voice call, video call and chat with each other. While the service was originally targeted for gamers to communicate with each other, many non-gaming-related servers [communities within Discord] exist, including servers related to K-pop.
Most K-pop-related Discord servers are fan-made and fan-operated servers that are not related to the agency.
In the case of project Artms and tripleS, the agency Modhaus had opened official servers on Discord for the agency to communicate with its fans more directly, similar to how Daum fancafe communities were used by K-pop artists and agencies. Currently, announcements regarding the girl group, fan sign events and music show pre-recording events are all shared on their Discord servers.
“We are putting a lot of effort into Discord so we can communicate more with fans around the world, beyond our existing social media channels,” said the agency in a press release.
Artms is a “project” by Modhaus containing four previous members of girl group Loona — Heejin Kim Lip, Jinsoul and Choerry. In April, the agency revealed that Artms is not the final name of the girl group but just a project leading up to one.
Announced in May 2022, tripleS is Modhaus’s girl group that plans to have 24 members in total. Currently, 14 members of the girl group have been revealed, including Kim Chae-yeon, who first made her debut in girl group Busters in 2017, and Kim Yoo-yeon, who garnered popularity through MBC’s idol audition program “My Teenage Girls” (2021). The girl group aims for a more flexible structure, where fans can decide which members are part of each subunit's album releases.
Discord is a free-to-use service that started its service in 2015.
