Girl groups surge while Jung Kook holds top slot [GLOBAL K-POP CHART]

Girl group songs are regaining popularity on the Global K-pop Chart as the new year begins, but the very top of the list remains unchanged.

Jung Kook’s “Standing Next to You” (2023) topped Circle Chart’s Global K-pop Chart for the first week of 2024 (Dec. 31–Jan. 6), holding the slot for eight straight weeks, while LE SSERAFIM’s English single, “Perfect Night” (2023), stayed at No. 2, for seven weeks in a row.

Both songs saw extremely positive receptions in and outside Korea, with “Standing Next to You” landing No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and “Perfect Night” taking No. 1 slots on Melon’s real-time, daily, weekly and even monthly charts — making LE SSERAFIM the only girl group to top the monthly chart with an English song.

Jung Kook’s previous solo releases also stayed strong, with the explicit version of “Seven” (2023) sitting at No. 4, “3D (feat. Jack Harlow)” (2023) at No. 6 and the clean version of “Seven” in ninth place.

The chart also saw girl group tracks on the rise, with aespa’s “Drama” (2023) landing No. 3, two places higher than last week, followed by NewJeans’ “Super Shy” (2023) in fifth, “Ditto” (2022) in eighth, “OMG” in 10th and “ETA” in 12th, which all climbed ranks this week.

NewJeans took home the Digital Song of the Year award for “Ditto” at this year's 38th Golden Disc Awards.
