'Song of the Bandits' ranks No. 2 for non-English TV show chart on Netflix
Netflix's latest action series “Song of the Bandits” climbed to No. 2 on the streaming platform's non-English Global Top 10 TV chart, just days after its release.
The series, which was released on Sept. 22, rose to the second spot on the weekly chart for the week of Sept. 25 to Oct. 1. It was ranked top 10 in 26 countries outside of Korea, including Brazil, Greece and Hong Kong, according to the streaming service.
It was the No. 1 series in Korea on the streaming service during the same week.
“Song of the Bandits,” an action series, revolves around the stories of Lee Yoon, played by Kim Nam-gil, a former Japanese soldier who became a bandit to protect his homeland and people. The story takes place in Gando, a lawless Chinese region, during the Japanese occupation in the 1920s.
Kim debuted as an actor in 1999 and rose to fame in the MBC historical drama “Queen Seondeok of Silla” (2009). He has since been known for his roles in “The Pirates” (2014), an action adventure movie with a hint of comedy, and “Through the Darkness” (2022), as a criminal behavior profiler.
The series, with its mix of western and Joseon-style elements, got a 4.5 out of 5 average rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
