Teaser for Season 2 'Squid Game' hits Netflix's YouTube channel
A teaser clip of the second season of the hit Netflix series “Squid Game” (2021) dropped on Friday as the show gears up for its premiere with Gi-hun rejoining the life-and-death game.
The second season, set for release on Dec. 26, follows the battle between Gi-hun and the contest’s Front Man as the winner of the secret survival contest in the first season rejoins to stop the deadly game to win the 45.6 billion won ($33 million) prize.
The clip was uploaded on Netflix’s official YouTube channel Friday, starting off with taking photos of the 456 contestants. Gi-hun returns as contestant No. 456, his same number as in the previous season.
A familiar game — Red Light, Green Light — also appears in the clip, as well as contestants voting to continue the game or end it. This time, however, the vote will occur after every round, unlike in season one, where it was only held after the first round.
Directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, who took the helm of the first season, the upcoming season will continue featuring Lee Jung-jae as Gi-hun and Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man, as well as Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo.
New cast members are also set to appear, including Yim Si-wan, Jo Yu-ri from project group IZ*ONE, and Choi Seung-Hyun, also known as former Big Bang member T.O.P.
The first season of "Squid Game," released on Sept. 17, 2021, revolved around a secret survival contest with 456 players in dire financial need, playing a series of deadly children’s games for a chance to win the 45.6 billion won prize.
The series garnered major global popularity, reaching No. 1 in 94 countries, along with recording 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first month of release. It also received a number of prestigious awards, with director Hwang winning the Best Director Award at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
