Dreamcatcher debuted in January 2017 with the single “Nightmare” under Dreamcatcher Company, formerly HappyFace Entertainment.
It consists of seven members JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami, and Gahyeon.
Dreamcatcher is known for its unconventionally dark concept for a girl group and its rock metal sound that had virtually never been seen before among girl K-pop acts.
As a result, the group became one of the earliest examples of K-pop acts to gain more popularity abroad than it did in the Korean market.
Its music and lyrics convey powerful messages centering around social topics such as cyberbullying and environmental protection.
Dreamcatcher’s fandom is dubbed InSomnia, affectionately abbreviated to Somnia.
Is Dreamcatcher a re-debut?
Dreamcatcher was a re-debut for five of its seven members. Members JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon and Dami formerly debuted as the girl group MINX in 2014 under HappyFace Entertainment but saw little success.
The group of five added members Handong and Gahyeon, then reorganized itself as a new group named Dreamcatcher. The agency itself rebooted its name to Dreamcatcher Company in the process.
