'Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon' starring Jeon Jong-seo to hit theaters in March
Actor Jeon Jong-seo stars as the titular Mona Lisa Lee in a new Hollywood fantasy thriller, “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon.”
A story about a struggling single mother, played by Kate Hudson, who befriends a mystical woman with supernatural powers and goes on a crime adventure, the film was produced in 2021 but is opening in theaters in Korea in March.
“Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon” had its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in 2021 and was released in September last year in the United States with rave reviews. It currently holds a 75 percent “fresh” rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
John Lesher, best known for the Academy Award winning “Birdman” (2014), served as the producer for “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon.”
Jeon, also known as Rachel Jun, rose to stardom with the role of Hae-mi in the Korean thriller drama “Burning” (2018) directed by one of the most acclaimed directors of his generation, Lee Chang-dong. She won the Best Actress award at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2021 with “The Call” (2020) and most recently played the lead in “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” (2022).
