Singer-rapper Jessi questioned by police after teen fan assaulted at private gathering in Gangnam
Singer-rapper Jessi was questioned by police after a teenage fan of hers was assaulted by a man at a private gathering last month.
The Seoul Gangnam Police Precinct summoned Jessi around 10 p.m. Wednesday to investigate her connection to the perpetrator and clarify the details of the incident.
“I want to find the person who hit [my fan] quickly and hope that person gets punished,” Jessi said, arriving at the station in a black cap. “I will share everything I know.”
When asked by reporters if she had met the assailant for the first time on the day of the incident, she confirmed that she had.
Jessi also expressed remorse to the victim, saying, "I am very sorry."
An 18-year-old fan of Jessi was attacked by a man accompanying her in Gangnam, southern Seoul, in the early hours of Sept. 29, according to police.
The victim said he requested a photo with Jessi, but when she declined, he apologized and attempted to leave. At that moment, a man from her group struck him in the face.
Police reported that Jessi quickly left the scene, and when they arrived after the victim's call, her group was found nearby. Jessi, however, claimed she did not know the whereabouts of the attacker.
After the case was reported through JTBC's investigative program, Jessi posted a letter of apology on Saturday, explaining that she panicked during the incident and failed to respond properly, as she did not personally know the perpetrator.
