Girl group CLASS:y held its debut showcase at the Yes 24 Live Hall in Gwangjin District, eastern Seoul on Wednesday.

The group, formed in February, consists of the seven finalists of MBC’s idol audition program “My Teenage Girls” (2021-22) — Won Ji-min, Kim Seon-you, Myung Hyeong-seo, Hong Hye-ju, Kim Ri-won, Park Bo-eun and Yoon Chae-won.

Since “My Teenage Girls” was a school-themed show, as reflected in the group name, the age range of debuting finalists is quite young. The eldest Hyeong-seo, who was formerly a member of girl group Busters, was born in 2001, and the two youngest Bo-eun and Seon-you were born in 2008, making them the youngest singers in the K-pop scene today.

The group performed its debut lead track “Shut Down," which is a “mix of K-pop and Bollywood-style music, K-wood if you will,” said top finalist-turned-member Ji-min. A zombie-themed music video inspired by the hit Netflix series “All of Us Are Dead” (2021) will drop tomorrow.

“When I heard it was going to be a zombie theme, I was so excited the night before filming,” said Hyeong-seo. “It was a concept I’ve always wanted to do, especially because I had been enjoying ‘All of Us Are Dead’ so much. The extras’ makeup was so realistic that we didn’t even have to act scared in the video!”

CLASS:y came out with the catchphrase “We customize our own" to show its aims to continue to change its concepts in the future.

Dancer Aiki, who was a mentor to the members, sent a coffee truck to the showcase. In the Korean entertainment industry, custom-decorated food or coffee trucks are sent to stars from fans or fellow celebrities to show support.

MBC will air a two-episode entertainment show titled “The World of CLASS:y” on May 10 and 17 at 11:30 p.m.

CLASS:y’s debut EP “Class is Over,” which features five tracks in total, is set to drop on May 5.
