Chloé Zhao’s 'Nomadland' to hit local theaters on April 15
Director Chloé Zhao’s 2020 film “Nomadland,” considered likely to sweep this April’s Academy Awards, will hit Korean theaters on April 15, Walt Disney Company announced on Thursday.
“Nomadland” won the Golden Lion at the 2020 Venice Film Festival and the Best Motion Picture — Drama and Best Director awards at the Golden Globes in February. Zhao, who is Chinese, became the second woman to win a Golden Lion and the first Asian woman to receive a Golden Globe in either category.
The film has collected a total of 194 accolades so far and is considered likely to win numerous Oscars next month.
“Nomadland” tells the story of a woman who travels throughout the United States in a van, searching for work after her home city’s economy collapses due to a large factory shutting down.
Academy-winning actor Frances McDormand plays the protagonist who picks up survival skills for living on the road.
Zhao is also directing the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Eternals” set to be released this November.
