Female K-pop survival program "Queendom 2" is set to air its first episode on March 31, according to local television channel Mnet on Tuesday.

The show will air every Thursday at 9:20 p.m. for 10 weeks.

The channel said that “Queendom 2” aims to attract K-pop fans outside of Korea by making the show available online. It added that it strives for some of the songs released through the program to make it onto global music charts.

"Queendom 2" will showcase six high-profile girl groups who will all release a new song on the same day and compete with each other for the final prize. In the first season, the prize was a solo comeback show on Mnet.

The first season of “Queendom” which aired in 2019, featured girl groups Mamamoo, Lovelyz, AOA, (G)I-DLE, Oh My Girl and soloist Park Bom. Mamamoo won the final performance of “Queendom” but all the girl groups on the show received attention and praise for their creative performances and skillful singing and dancing.

The program’s success led to a similar survival show with K-pop boy bands “Road to Kingdom” in 2020.

It was announced in January that singer Taeyeon of girl group Girls' Generation will host the show.

Taeyeon debuted in 2007 as a lead singer in Girls' Generation. The group has hit songs “Gee” (2009), “Run Devil Run” (2010) and “I Got a Boy” (2013).

Taeyeon made her solo debut in 2015 and since then has released songs including “I” (2015), “Rain” (2016), “Fine” (2017), “Four Seasons” (2019) and “Spark” (2019). She is also one of seven members of SM Entertainment’s new girl group, GOT the beat.
