Mamamoo subunit to debut on August 30
Girl group Mamamoo’s label RWB announced Tuesday that it will launch a subunit of the girl group on Aug. 30.
The name of the subunit will be Mamamoo+ and Solar and Moonbyul will be members.
The label also announced that it is looking for a new member to join the members of Mamamoo for the subunit, suggesting that there may be a new face.
According to the label, as the plus sign on the group’s name suggests, it hasn’t set any limits on how Mamamoo+ will present its music and performances.
“The subunit will be operating flexibly,” the label said. “Since it’s Mamamoo’s first subunit, please look forward to its new endeavor and new style of music.”
The label also released a poster of Mamamoo+ with the announcement. The poster features Solar and Moonbyul smiling at each other as they pose next to a bright orange convertible on a nice sunny day. The subunit will make its debut on Aug. 30 with the release of a digital single.
Mamamoo debuted in 2014 and consists of four members: Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein and Hwasa. The girl group is known for its steady flow of hits such as "Um Oh Ah Yeh" (2015), "You're the best" (2016), "Décalcomanie" (2016), "Yes I am" (2017), "Starry Night" (2018), "Egotistic" (2018), "Gogobebe" (2019), "Hip" (2019) and "Aya" (2020).
