Ong Seong-wu to begin military service on April 17

Singer and actor Ong Seong-wu [FANTAGIO]

Singer and actor Ong Seong-wu will begin his military service on April 17, his agency Fantagio announced Thursday.

“Ong Seong-wu will receive his basic military training in the army boot camp on April 17 and will be completing his mandatory military service as an active-duty soldier,” a statement released by the agency on Thursday reads.

In Korea, all able-bodied young men are required to serve around one and a half years in the military.

“Please understand that the enlistment ceremony at the recruit training center will be held privately, and there will be no separate official events [held by the agency].” The agency also asked people to refrain from visiting the training center.

“Please send your warm support and love to Ong Sung-woo, who will faithfully fulfill his military service duty and return in good health.”

Ong debuted in 2017 as a member of boy band Wanna One, which was formed through the second season of Mnet's hit audition program "Produce 101" (2017). After it disbanded in early 2019, Ong started his solo singing and acting career. Ong has played lead roles in JTBC series "At Eighteen" (2019) and "More Than Friends" (2020).
