Coming from an agency home to some of the best song makers in the industry, Ampers&One rolled out its latest album, crafted by the agency’s genius songwriters who also gave the perfect touch to the band’s boyish pop mood in its first album, “One Question.”

“One Question” was released on Tuesday as Ampers&One’s first album since its debut last November, featuring new lead track “He + She = We” and five other songs. The band has released two singles so far.


“It was a lot different from preparing a single, not just because it took a longer time,” Kamden told the Korea JoongAng Daily in an interview held prior to the release of the album. “It also gave us the chance to develop ourselves more, which was really good for us. Each song has its own style and we had to think about how we could change ourselves to bring the best out of each song.”

“I hope our efforts show through to Andear,” he added, mentioning the band’s fan club by its official name.

With lead track “He + She = We,” Ampers&One took a turn from the tougher synth-pop sound it showed with debut track “On And On,” instead bringing a touch of funky house music harnessed by Jung Yong-hwa of FNC Entertainment’s rock band CNBlue.

“You know a song is good if it sticks in your head at first listen, and that’s exactly what happened. I knew that this song would do well,” Kamden said.

“The first time I heard the song, ‘He + She = We,’ I could just picture us enjoying ourselves on stage even though it didn’t have any choreography at first,” Kyrell said. “We’re always very passionate and energetic on stage, and quite playful around each other as well. I think the song will really go well with that vibe.”

Ampers&One's members did indeed show their energetic and harmonious teamwork during the interview, which the members credited as having come from their different cultural backgrounds.

Of the seven members of Ampers&One —Jiho, Kamden, Maciah, Brian, Kyrell, Seungmo and Siyun — only three members, Jiho, Seungmo and Siyun, are Korean. Kamden and Kyrell are from the United States, Brian is from Canada and Maciah is from Australia.

“Having four people from different countries means that we can reach out to fans from further away in our own languages,” Maciah said. “We also help each other understand each other’s cultures, which helped bring us closer and understand each other better.”

“We were actually told by a staff member at the ‘Golden Wave’ [concert in Tokyo] recently that we look so confident and close to each other,” Jiho said. “It made us so proud that we weren’t getting complacent and we were keeping the promise that we made to ourselves that we would always try our hardest not only on the stage but off the stage, too.”

The band is soon set to celebrate its one-year anniversary since debut on Nov. 15. It will first hold a livestream event to thank the fans.

“And then we have something really big and amazing ready,” Kandem said with an excited voice, but refrained from giving any spoilers. “We have really big things ready for next year — special things. We’re ready to take on the world so that we can spread our name on the global stage.”

“We hope to become the first band that comes to mind when people think of K-pop,” Maciah said.
