Boy band 82Major sings more mature tune with fifth EP 'Feelm'
The cheeky boys of 82Major have grown up — but they are still here to save the day.
“The lead single, ‘Sign,’ is a song that shows how 82Major matured,” said member Nam Seong-mo, dressed in a black suit along with his bandmates, during a press showcase for its fifth EP, “Feelm,” held at the Yes24 Wanderloch Hall in western Seoul on Tuesday.
“There was some pressure at first,” said member Yoon Yae-chan. “This is the first time we’re trying this kind of more mature concept. But as we continued to work together, I felt more at ease in the process.”
82Major debuted in October 2023 as Great M Entertainment's first boy band. Best known for hip-hop tracks such as “Stuck” (2024) and “Choke” (2024), the six-member group consists of Nam, Yoon, Cho Sung-il, Park Seok-joon, Hwang Seong-bin and Kim Do-gyun.
“Feelm,” which comes six months after the group’s fourth EP, “Trophy,” marks a step forward for the boy band in both sound and concept. The title combines the words “feel” and “film,” signifying that the album captures different emotional moments as though they were connected scenes in a film.
The EP features five songs across various genres: the lead track, “Sign,” and B-sides, “W.T.F,” “Cage,” “Circles” and “Yessir.” “Sign” is a restrained, sleek dance pop number, still intense in its beat but more controlled than the group’s previous lead singles.
In the music video directed by producer-director Lee Su-ho of Balming Tiger, the members appear as secret heroes saving people who have been brainwashed into forgetting true love, which appears to echo the music video for the group’s 2024 hit, “Stuck,” where the members also appeared as whimsical agents saving the day.
“We talk a lot about love overall with this album,” said Hwang. “My personal wish with this album is that people who listen to our music would be able to share love with one another.”
During Tuesday’s event, 82Major performed three tracks live, back-to-back, showing its live prowess. Starting with a jazzy introduction of “W.T.F,” the group performed in synchronized choreography, followed by “Circle,” where they sang using standing microphones.
As with previous releases, the six members were actively involved in the creative process in the album, which 82Major members believe sets the group apart onstage.
“We really enjoy making our own music, and we sincerely enjoy the music onstage,” said Park. “We participate in writing and composing most of our B-sides and are deeply involved in the production process, which I think is one of our biggest strengths.”
With this album, 82Major hopes to reach more listeners around the world, the members said.
“Through this album, I want to go and see more of our fans overseas,” said Yoon, adding, “We will also show more new sides of ourselves.”
