Former Wonder Girls member Sunye to perform in musical 'Ruth'
Singer Sunye, former member of disbanded girl group Wonder Girls, will appear in a musical titled “Ruth.”
The musical production is adapted from the biblical Book of Ruth from the Old Testament, which tells of the life a woman named Ruth, who overcomes obstacles of her life through the power of love. The production will depict the relationship of Ruth and her husband Boaz.
The production will be the first time for Sunye to appear in a musical. She will take on the lead role of Ruth.
“Ruth” will run from next March 5 to April 2 at Kwanglim Arts Center’s BBCH Hall in Gangnam District, southern Seoul.
Sunye debuted with Wonder Girls’ first EP “Irony” in February 2007. As the leader and main vocalist for the group, Sunye proved popular over the years with Wonder Girls’ hit songs like “Tell Me” (2007), “So Hot” (2008) and “Nobody” (2008). She took a break from the entertainment industry, ultimately leaving the group in 2015 after getting married. She officially returned to the spotlight late last year for tvN’s “Mama the Idol” and dropped her first solo EP “Genuine” in July.
