NewJeans’ second EP “Get Up,” released in July, made it onto the lists of both Rolling Stone and The New York Times’ best albums of 2023.

U.S. magazine Rolling Stone released “The 100 Best Albums of 2023” on Nov. 30, U.S. local time.

“Get Up” ranked at No. 33, earning the group its second consecutive year on the list. “New Jeans,” released on Aug. 1, 2022, was also named one of the best albums of 2022 by Rolling Stone.

“This time, NewJeans tap into a nostalgic goodie bag of Y2K-era R&B and U.K. garage/drum-and-bass sounds that puts ‘Get Up’ in line with recent coups by FKA Twigs and PinkPantheress,” Simon Vozick-Levinson, a Rolling Stone’s deputy music editor, wrote in the wrap-up report. “Even in that context, the sheer concentration of super-elastic hooks and retro-futuristic production on songs like ‘Super Shy,’ ‘New Jeans,’ and ‘ASAP’ is remarkable. Put this up against any other 12 minutes in pop this year, and NewJeans are the odds-on favorites.”

The album ranked the highest among K-pop albums, according to its agency ADOR.

“Get Up” was also named one of the best albums of 2023 by The New York Times, according to the daily's newspaper article published on Nov. 30.

“The most modern, most progressive and most slick pop release of the year is this futurist delight of an EP from the Korean girl group NewJeans, who are adaptable to a host of styles, including sultry R&B and pop-jungle,” Jon Caramanica, a pop music critic, said in The New York Times's listing.

“Get Up” was the only K-pop album to be named on British GQ’s “The Best Albums of 2023,” which was announced days earlier on Monday.

NewJeans debuted in July 2022 under agency ADOR, a music label under HYBE, and has been one of the biggest names in K-pop ever since its debut. It's known for its hit songs, including "Attention” (2022), “Hype Boy" (2022) and “Ditto.”

The group recently won Artist of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2023 MAMA Awards held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
