Mnet audition program 'Build Up' looks to produce vocal quartet

Mnet’s upcoming boy band audition show “Build Up” will see 40 contestants, from former and current idols, idol trainees and musical actors, fighting for a spot in the four-member vocals-focused boy band.

“Build Up,” set to air its first episode on Friday, is cable network Mnet’s first audition show of 2024. The show aims to produce a quartet consisting of members that excel in their vocal abilities.

Vocal group SG Wannabe’s Lee Seok-hoon, Baekho, BTOB’s Seo Eun-kwang, Red Velvet’s Wendy, Mamamoo’s Solar and Kim Jae-hwan will be judges for the show, with model and actress Lee Da-hee hosting the show.

The 40 contestants, announced Monday, include former contestants of “Boys Planet” (2023): Jay Chang from boy band One Pact, Lee Hwan-hee from Up10tion and Wumuti; alongside boy band members Seunghun from CIX, Jeonwoong from AB6IX, Bain from JUST B, Kang Seok-hwa from WEi, Lee Dong-hun from A.C.E and many more.

Taehwan from Vanner, the winning team of JTBC’s boy band audition program “Peak Time” (2023), will also join the show.

The show will also feature musical actors Jo Hwan-ji, Kim Seo-hyung and Choi Ha-ram, in addition to non-celebrity contestants.

Co-produced by CJ ENM, Orca Music and Genie Music, “Build Up” will air on both cable networks tvN and Mnet.
