Steven Spielberg thanked Korean fans for their support of his film “The Fabelmans,” in a handwritten letter released on Monday.

“To all my fans in Korea, thank you for your warm embrace of the most personal story of my entire film career, The Fabelmans!” The letter released Monday by CJ ENM, the film’s Korean distributor, reads.

“It means so much to me that I got to share the story of my family with all of your families...” Spielberg said.

“The Fabelmans” (2022) is a semi-autobiographical film loosely based on Spielberg’s childhood. The film revolves around a kid named Sammy falling in love with cinematography after his first visit to a movie theater.

First released in November 2022, the film won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and was nominated for seven different prizes at the Academy Awards and the Best Screenplay (Original) award at the British Academy Film Awards.

The movie released in Korea on March 22 has also received praise from local media and critics, notably a five-star rating from movie critic Lee Dong-jin, the second film in 2023 to receive a five-star rating by Lee.
