BabyMonster on lineup for Japan's Summer Sonic music festival

Girl group BabyMonster will perform at Japan’s Summer Sonic music festival in August, the group’s agency, YG Entertainment, said Thursday.

It is the group's first external schedule announcement since the seven-member lineup was completed with the return of Ahyeon.

Summer Sonic, a two-day music festival held simultaneously in Tokyo and Osaka, will be held on Aug. 17 and 18 this year. The organizers revealed its additional artist lineup on Thursday.

BabyMonster will perform in Tokyo on Aug. 18 while sister-brother duo AKMU will perform on Aug. 17. The two groups are the only K-pop artists who were announced to perform at the festival as of Thursday. It will be both groups' first time performing at Summer Sonic.

BabyMonster debuted on Nov. 27, 2023 under YG Entertainment with its debut single “Batter Up.”

It is the agency's first girl group in seven years since Blackpink, originally debuting officially with six members before adding one more. The group members are Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Rami, Rora, Chiquita and Ahyeon.

The group dropped its single "Stuck in the Middle" on Feb. 1.

The group’s upcoming EP “BABYMONS7ER,” slated for release on April 1, will mark the collective debut of all seven members.
