Blackpink's Jisoo wins 'rising star' award at Canneseries
Jisoo of girl group Blackpink received the Madame Figaro Rising Star Award at the 2026 Cannes International Series Festival (Canneseries), organizers said Friday.
The festival noted that Jisoo “continues to balance careers in music and acting, with a focus on expanding her filmography through diverse roles and formats.”
“With her international reach, screen presence and ongoing artistic growth, she remains a prominent and promising figure in contemporary Korean and global entertainment,” organizers said on the event website.
In March, her latest television series “Boyfriend on Demand” premiered on Netflix, in which she plays Mi-rae, a webtoon producer worn down by work who seeks romance through a virtual dating subscription service.
Clad in a baby pink dress, Jisoo took the stage to receive the award in person and paid her gratitude in French, saying “merci beaucoup,” in Cannes on Thursday. The festival, now into its ninth edition, started Thursday and runs through Tuesday.
Canneseries artistic director Albin Lewi reportedly described Jisoo’s “artistic journey, her ability to conquer new creative territories and her global aura” as the reasons behind the selection, according to Variety.
Established in 2018, the annual festival showcases outstanding TV series from around the world through four official sections — Competition, Short Form Competition, Documentary Series Competition and Out of Competition — as well as the Rendez-Vous section, a curated, noncompetition program.
Jisoo debuted as a member of Blackpink in 2016. Jisoo is also known for her roles in television drama series like JTBC’s “Snowdrop” (2021-22), Coupang Play’s “Newtopia” (2025) and Netflix's “Boyfriend on Demand,” as well as the film “Omniscient Reader” (2025).
