Trot singer Lim Young-woong donated 200 million won ($146,600) to charity Community Chest of Korea under the name “Hero Generation,” the title of his fan club, in celebration of Parents’ Day.

Parents’ Day falls on May 8 in Korea.

In line with Lim’s wishes, the donations will be used to support low-income and disadvantaged people, according to the charity on Wednesday.

The Community Chest of Korea, launched in 1998, is a nonprofit welfare organization and Korea’s only government-sanctioned charity.

Lim and his agency, Mulgogi Music, have donated to the charity annually since 2021 under the name Hero Generation. They have collectively givena total of 900 million won in donations to the Community Chest of Korea so far. Of the total, 100 million won was used in relief for the wildfire that burned through Uljin County in North Gyeongsang and Samcheok in Gangwon in 2022, while 200 million won was used in damage relief for the nationwide downpours in July last year.

Lim debuted as a singer in 2016 but found breakthrough success after winning TV Chosun’s trot audition program, “Mr. Trot,” in 2020.

The singer is slated to hold two concerts, titled “Im Hero – The Stadium,” at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo District, western Seoul, on May 25 and 26. His latest single, “Warmth,” dropped on Monday.
