EXO celebrates 14-year legacy with upcoming concert in Seoul
Boy band EXO, even after 14 years since its debut, still finds its decade-long legacy “unbelievable,” according to its agency SM Entertainment on Wednesday.
Wednesday marks exactly 14 years since the group's debut on April 8, 2012. EXO is best known for hits “Growl” (2013), “Overdose” (2014) and “Love Me Right” (2015), and has surpassed a million copies sold with eight of its albums.
When members were asked about the most memorable moment of their journey, Chanyeol recalled when the members performed “History” (2012) at the band’s debut showcase.
“I cannot believe that 14 years have passed since,” said Chanyeol, according to a press release from the agency.
“Still, the most unforgettable day was when we filmed the music video of ‘History,’” Suho said. “It was when I realized that I was finally recording the music video in a set that I had always watched on TV.”
In January this year, EXO released its eighth full-length album "Reverxe."
Kai found the “number 14,” referring to the years he has been in the group, “unbelievable,” noting that his time with the group’s fandom EXO-L made his memories more meaningful.
“Rather than a specific moment, I always remember air and how fans look at us when we are on stage,” Kai said. “Those moments made me who I am today.”
EXO is set to hold a three-day concert starting Friday in Seoul, titled “EXO Planet #6 - EXhOrizon,” the first of its kind in six years and four months. The event will be the perfect mix of new music and memories, according to members.
“Although there will be new songs and performances, the word ‘nostalgia’ would be most befitting to depict the concert,” Suho said. “The songs that had been played for the last 14 years are reinterpreted in today's style.”
While D.O. said it would be a performance full of “memories,” Kai said it would be a moment of “reunion” where 14 years of moments would reconnect.
The members did not forget to express their appreciation for their fans and make affectionate promises in return.
“Thank you for loving EXO for a long time, and I won’t get used to it,” Suho said. “I will return with greater love.”
“Let’s do we are one,” Sehoon said, giving a nod to the group’s flagship chant.
