NewJeans, IVE dominate Apple Music K-pop charts with hit songs

Girl groups NewJeans and IVE dominated the K-pop scene this year, a year-end report by Apple Music showed Wednesday.

NewJeans charted six songs in the top 10 of Apple Music’s Top Songs of 2023 Korea. Its songs “Ditto,” "OMG” and “Hype Boy” (2022) each sat at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 spots, and “Attention” (2022) sat at No. 5 and “Super Shy” at No. 7.

NewJeans also put three songs on the top 20 of the Top 100 2023 Sing chart, which lists the most sung-to songs by subscribers worldwide.

NewJeans’ “Ditto” placed at No. 2, “OMG” at No. 11 and “Hype Boy” (2022) at No. 18.

The group was the only K-pop artist to chart in the top 25 of Apple Music’s Top Songs of 2023 Global, with its track “Ditto” sitting at No. 19.

IVE also had two of its songs make Apple Music’s Top Songs of 2023 Korea. “I AM” came fourth, and “Kitsch” sat at No. 10.

Le Sserafim and Younha were the other two female artists to make the top 10.

Jungkook of BTS was the only male artist to be ranked in the top 10 list of the same chart, with his song “Seven,” which featured American rapper Latto.

Boy band BTS was the most searched artist on Korea’s Shazam, which is an application that identifies songs.
