Slow and steady wins the race, and boy band Xodiac is continuing to put in the hard work to achieve success “Some Day” — which also serves as the title of the band's new EP.

“I hope that one day, people will recognize us as we walk down the street,” Zayyan told the Korea JoongAng Daily in an interview. “We’re always looking forward to everything. I really hope we do well.”

Xodiac debuted in April last year with its digital single “Throw A Dice.” The band consists of six Korean members — Hyunsik, Lex, Beomsoo, Wain, Gyumin and Davin — two members from Hong Kong — Sing and Leo — and one member from Indonesia, Zayyan.

Zayyan is one of the few Indonesian singers in K-pop. Combined with the two members from Hong Kong, the group has garnered rave support from overseas fans, but currently has relatively less of a pull in the cutthroat K-pop scene. Differentiating itself from others may not be an easy task, but the members are determined to try everything they can, especially by adding their own creativeness to their work.

“We made the choreography for ‘Forever Young,’” Beomsoo said.

“Forever Young” is a B-side track from the band’s second EP, “Some Day,” released on Sept. 25 with five tracks including lead track “Our Days.”

“We made the dance moves by having everyone chip in a little with their opinions on the final work, which made it possible for us to realize what works well for us,” Beomsoo continued. “We worked through a lot of different ideas, and that allowed us to get to know ourselves much better.”

Through the lead track “Our Days,” Xodiac has continued its signature refreshing, boyish vibe. But rather than the schoolboy theme of the first EP “Throw A Dice” (2023), Xodiac went for a slightly older concept: young men fresh out of school looking for their place in society.

“It’s about the things that happen while we’re trying to find our path in society and the emotions that we feel during that process,” Gyumin said. “We want this to be a song that comforts everyone going through tough times.”

Other than the creative side, Xodiac members chose communication with fans and disciplined self-management as the two aspects they thought were crucial for success as a K-pop boy band.

“An idol group is nothing without our fans, and we are nothing without our fans, X-Bliss, so we believe that communicating with the fans is the most important thing for us,” Hyunsik said.

“And an idol has to be capable — that’s a must,” Lex said. “We always have to look after ourselves so that our skills are top-notch and then try other things so that we can be well-rounded players.”

For now, the goals are humble for Xodiac.

“It’s only been a year and a half for us in the scene, so we’re craving so much for a place to perform, as well as other stages that we can be on,” Wain said. “We hope to show ourselves on various platforms and meet with fans so that our fans can be proud of supporting us.”

The emphasis on the “Days” in its music — with albums “Xoul Day” and “Some Day” and lead track “Our Days” — is the very manifestation of that goal, according to Gyumin.

“It’s our mission to cherish every day that we’re making together,” he said. “Just as you live each day of your life, we’re collecting each ‘Day’ of Xodiac to make our life together.”
