Girl groups dominated Melon in 2023
Girl groups dominated the K-pop scene in 2023, as evidenced by Korea's largest domestic music chart.
Nine out of the 10 songs that were played the most on Melon, Korea's largest music streaming service, were by female acts, the service's operator, Kakao Entertainment, revealed in its 2023 compiled data.
NewJeans topped the chart with its 2022 prerelease track “Ditto.” Three other songs from the group appeared on the top 10 list — “Hype Boy” (2022) took No. 2, “OMG” (2023) took No. 4 and “Attention” (2022) took No. 8.
Three IVE songs made top 10 chart: “I AM” (2023) at No. 3, “Kitsch” (2023) at No. 6 and “After LIKE” (2022) at No. 10.
The group previously topped the 2022 yearly chart with its track “Love Dive” (2022).
(G)I-DLE’s “Queencard” (2023) sat on No. 7 on the chart.
Other girl groups, such as aespa, Le Sserafim, Blackpink, NMIXX and Fifty Fifty also appeared all over the chart.
Singer-songwriter Younha’s 2022 track “Event Horizon” sat on No. 5. Though the song was released in 2022, it climbed back up the charts last year.

Seventeen subunit BSS sat the highest among boy bands with its track “Fighting” (2023), featuring rapper Lee Young-ji, taking No. 16.
